A few weeks ago I wrote the article How To Defeat Mind-Numbing Room Echo where I explain a few tricks to control echo in a room. I suggest you read the article too.
Why is this important?
When you wear hearing aids, echo can be one of your worst nightmares. Hearing aids aren’t as good as the brain at isolating echo so it can be really hard to hear a conversation in an echo-y room.
I’ve recorded a video (the very first for Superhuman Hearing!) to show you how you can control echo in a room with three simple tricks:
1. The curtains
2. The bags in the corner
3. The hanging blanket
In Part 2 of this Echo Series I will show you how to use a mobile app to measure echo. This is important because when you can measure echo you can use technology to know more accurately how much echo you can tolerate. Part 2 is now available here: http://getsuperhumanhearing.com/video-how-to-measure-echo-in-a-room/
First, watch Part 1 here:
Since this is my first video, I’d really love some feedback. Can you hear it OK? Can you see/understand the subtitles? Am I speaking clearly enough? Does the demo help you? Can you hear the echo in the video?
Any feedback welcome, please comment below.

Great job as you speak clearly, use captions and visually explain tips to decrease echo. I could understand you and tell the difference.

Thank you Cheri. I’m glad you found my tips useful!
Amazing, thank you. I’ll be putting these into practice next time there’s an echo. The bag/coat trick is so discreet too, i won’t even have to explain myself 🙂

Great, thank you Helena. Let me know if those tricks work for you. 🙂
Also, check out the next video in the series, I show how to measure the echo with a mobile app http://getsuperhumanhearing.com/video-how-to-measure-echo-in-a-room/. You might find it useful.
very useful for a room wirh choice to use the tips but my main problem is in an office environment

Hi Christopher, tell me more about your office environment problem, I might be able to help.
You speak very clearly, and I love use of subtitles, too. I could tell a big difference with curtains, but not so much with bags in the corners or blanket over the pole. I’m sure if there were more surface area covered with soft wall hangings, I could hear a difference, though.

Thank you Diane, I’m glad you found this video useful and clear. The bags and the blanket would have made more difference if I didn’t have the curtains. Since the curtains already reduced the echo by quite a lot, the improvement was only marginal.
